7. In this interview, L.H. from The Washington Copy interviews Ruby Pickens Tartt about the death and funeral of her aunt Amy Chapman. The interviewer questions Ruby about her relationship to Amy, things they did together, her importance in the community, her death, and details of the funeral. Ruby tells that Amy was her aunt whom "Although she had reached the age of ninety-five...still possessed a vigor of both body and mind far beyond her years." She explains that Amy worked "sewing and weaving for her Ole Miss". Ruby would visit and drive Amy around, such as home from Livingston. Also stated is that Amy was "one of the oldest citizens of Sumter County and certainly one of the most respected of its colored people". She had a stroke working in the cotton fields and four days later died. The funeral took place at two o'clock and was a very emotional. The interview ends with one last statement from Ruby "She had been returned to the soil from which she had sprung and was one with the land which she had loved so intensely". My impression towards the interview was it was a very touching, inspiring recollection about an strong old woman. I felt that Ruby had a close bond to Amy and her death was hard but she understood that in the end she was being returned to where she was meant to be. The interview in a whole was very indept and explained all the details leading up to the event. I think the interview gave a good conclusion to Amy's life.

My impression to this interview was that it was very interesting how the story of it had passed down through generations, all the way to Miss Margaret Hobson. She seems like a fasinating person with an interesting story to tell about the famous Magnolia Grove.
